ScoreSide Featured on KARE 11 in Minneapolis
Minneapolis-based ScoreSide saw its innovative platform featured during KARE 11’s 10 p.m. newscast Tuesday night, introducing to thousands of viewers the concept of charitable giving via a real-time sports app. KARE sports reporter Dave Schwartz took a look behind the scenes at ScoreSide, where company founders Ben Bakken, Clark Torgerson and JD Rubin shared their collective vision to create an app that lets users connect with fellow fans and donate to local charities while watching their favorite sports teams.
“Sports has a huge passion,” said Bakken in the piece, and “people obviously want to give.”

The story highlighted the platform’s ease-of-use for people who want to simply give money based on in-game statistics and outcomes, while also pointing out the community-building that evolves with friendly contests -- through app campaign leaderboards -- between users over who raises the most money.
“We were very happy that Dave and KARE 11 gave us the opportunity to get our mission and message out there,” added Bakken. “Utilizing technology to create fandom and fun around charitable giving is our aim and we feel we’re off to a great start.”
ScoreSide has nearly a dozen active campaigns across more than 5 charities in Minneapolis and Chicago, and plans to rapidly expand the app’s non-profit reach in the coming months.
“With the sports world ramping back up following a challenging half-year, we’re excited to partner with both non-profits, teams and even athletes to drive as much money to charities as we possibly can,” said Torgerson.
